About Us

We’re a coalition, a community, and a voice for men in education. We shift perceptions, share what works, and develop policies that will rebuild the male teaching workforce the country needs.

In the 1980s, one in three American teachers was a man. Today, it’s fewer than one in four — and the numbers are even lower for men of color. The Male Educator Network (MEN) & Policy Institute is the first organization built to turn that tide.

Our Mission

To build a national network for men in education, increasing their representation by equipping individuals, organizations, and institutions with data-driven research and bold public policy.

Our Vision

A world where every boy has a quality male role model in school, where male educators are valued and prepared to succeed, and where society champions education as a primary career choice for men.

Our Approach

MEN is part think tank, part fraternity. Our work rests
on five principles:

Non-partisan and inclusive

We build welcoming pathways into teaching for men from every background and experience.

Practical and impact-oriented

We turn ideas into action, partnering with policymakers and education leaders on strategies that move the needle.

Data-driven

We generate the research and narratives that show what male teachers mean for student outcomes and school climate.

Community-centered

We invest in the networks, mentorship, and professional communities that help male educators grow and stay.

Structural

We push for sustainable reforms that address the root causes of underrepresentation — not just the symptoms.
